Our bodies are assaulted with toxins everyday and from very direction – our food, water, soaps, cosmetics, cleaners, scents and in the air. These toxins can build up in our system. So the question becomes how to cleanse your body naturally gently. Removing toxins that have built up in our system ensure that our liver and our body function properly. If our liver and body are clogged – the body will compensate and problems could arise somewhere in our body.
Drink Plenty of Water
Drink plenty of water to flush the toxins out of your system. Most of us are chronically dehydrated. When you urinate it should be pale yellow or clear. If you are not drinking enough water (8-10 glasses per day is optimal) there is no way to expel the toxins from your body. Drinking enough water is so important and it also gives you shiny healthy hair.
Replace coffee with Detox tea
Herbs can dramatically help you to purge toxins from your system. Yogi Tea has a Detox tea with lots of great herbs to help. It is a gentle solution. Recommended dosage is one to three cups per day, I would suggest starting with one cup and working up to three. Use for up to 30 days, then a week break is suggested if you wanted to further extend your detox. Green tea is another great alternative.
Drink lemon water several times throughout the day. Lemon juice does a great job helping the liver expel the built up toxins. You can either squeeze lemon juice from a fresh lemon or use a Lemon Essential oil. Now I’m not talking about lemon juice in the plastic bottle in your produce section – that stuff has lots of additives that are not good for you. I drink a glass of water with 2-3 drops of lemon essential oil first thing in the morning. It helps to wake me up and tastes great. You could also add a little bit of honey or add it to your detox tea or green tea (which is full of antioxidants).
Eat whole foods and more fiber
Eat only whole foods and avoid processed foods altogether. Eat the rainbow by eating colorful fruits and vegetables. Green veggies like spinach contain lots of chlorophyll which helps to purge the body from toxins through liver detoxification. Garlic is an amazing food, although smelly it zaps lots of bugs in our system. Incorporate it into at least one daily meal to help clean your digestive tract.
Limit your sugar intake. Sugar feeds the bad stuff in our system like yeast and cancer cells. If possible eliminate sugar altogether during your detox, if not consume in moderation. I typically go cold turkey on sugar and within 2-3 days I no longer crave it. I believe sugar is addicting. Food manufacturer add it to almost all process foods, its not just in your baked goods folks!
Turmeric is a bright yellow household spice that many of us already have in the kitchen. It does a great job cleaning the liver and resetting your fat burning filter that often gets clogged by toxin overload. You can incorporate it into a daily meal or take a supplement if you don’t care for the taste of it. Personally I enjoy the taste of it.
Milk thistle is often seen as a weed. But this amazing plant does great things to cleans the toxins from your body. I would recommend this supplement to everyone to help with your detoxification especially if you have never detoxified your body before or you think your body might be overloaded with toxins. It is gentle and renowned for many reasons (nursing mothers use it to increase their milk supply).
Regular exercise – sweat it out
Exercise is good for your waist band, your mood and your overall health. Sweating with regular exercise is another great way to expel toxins from your skin and system. I do 20-30 minutes intense workouts 3-4 days per week.
Apple Cider Vinegar
I drink a little bit of warm water mixed with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar, a few shakes of cinnamon and some honey to taste. Without the honey it has a bit of a kick. All these ingredients together are a powerhouse to clean our those toxins.
Alcohol is going to halt your process as your liver has to work hard to remove it from the body. Our bodies need to be given the rest to detox the liver instead of working on processing out new toxins. A few weeks without alcohol gives your system a much needed rest. And after the detox alcohol should be consumed in moderation to not overload the liver again.
